Understanding Your Options
There are several paths to playing volleyball at the college level, each with different academic, athletic, and lifestyle considerations:

- Divisions I, II, and III
- Over 1,000 schools offering women’s volleyball
- Athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center and review theNCAA official website and NCAA Directory
2. NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics)
- Approximately 235 colleges with women’s volleyball programs
- A great fit for well-rounded student-athletes seeking a competitive but flexible environment
- VisitNAIA.org and the Play NAIA Eligibility Center
3. NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) and CCCAA (California Community College Athletic Association)
- 300+ NJCAA schools and 86 CCCAA schools in California
- Ideal for athletes who want to start at a 2-year school, earn an AA degree, and then transfer to a 4-year institution
Start early, Stay Organized
Every student-athlete should start by creating a college list broken into three categories:
- Dream Schools
- Target Schools
- Safety / Fallback Options
Explore each program’s roster, coaching staff, academic requirements, and playing style. It’s also important to maintain communication with coaches and keep your academic profile strong; grades, test scores, and eligibility all matter.
At Viper, we encourage our athletes to take initiative, attend college showcases, and use tools like Hudl or YouTube to share their highlight videos. We also host recruiting info sessions and can provide guidance on emails to coaches, official visits, and scholarships.
College volleyball recruiting is a long-term process, but it’s one of the most rewarding journeys in an athlete’s life. Viper Volleyball is committed to being your partner, providing the direction and resources to help you succeed both on and off the court.
